Choanoke Area Development Association of NC, Inc. (CADA) has been approved to receive $200,000 in Urgent Repair Funding (URP 2020 from the North Carolina Housing Finance (NCHFA) to assist very low-income homeowners with special needs or with a full-time household member(s) who have special needs in Bertie, Halifax, Hertford, Martin and Northampton Counties.
Funds will benefit households with incomes below 50% of the area median income. URP 2020 Funds are from the State appropriated North Carolina Housing Trust Fund. Applications will be ranked by need on a county-by-county basis. Applications with the highest scores in each county will be served first.
URP funds are provided in the form of a loan for the hard and soft costs used to repair/modify the house. Homeowners will receive an unsecured, deferred, interest-free loan, forgiven at a rate of $1,000 per year until the principal balance is zero. Maximum URP assistance is $10,000. CADA reserves the right to deny repairs to a house that are not cost effective or a wise investment of URP funds.
CADA will take applications from January 20-February 17, 2021. Due to current COVID safety requirements, CADA will limit in-person contact. Applications are available on the CADA Website: www.nc-cada.org or from the local County CADA office. Contact your local CADA office for an application and to schedule a time to discuss your need by phone. Proof of ownership, household members, and income is required. Those who have applied for URP Assistance in the past must update applications including providing proof of current income and household membership. CADA will use e-mail, faxes, US Postal Services and drop boxes at CADA offices to limit physical contact.
