CADA Announces Opening of Offices for In-Person Services July 12, 2021

Choanoke Area Development Association of NC, Inc. (CADA) will return to the pre-COVID office schedule for in-person services Monday, July 12, 2021. Office hours will be Monday-Thursday 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM and Friday 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM. Masks will be required in the facilities. Appointments are recommended so number of people in a facility at one time can be managed. Walk-ins will be served, but they may have to wait until those with appointments are seen. This schedule is for CADA offices only and does not include CADA Head Start Centers. CADA will continue to also provide virtual/electronic services. REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL ATTORNEY SERVICES

Choanoke Area Development Association of North Carolina, Inc. (CADA), a non-profit corporation chartered to do business in the State of North Carolina, is soliciting proposals from local attorneys licensed to practice in the State of North Carolina to provide professional legal services to CADA on an as-needed basis, at an agreed upon rate per hour. CADA Receives CARES COVID-19 Economic Impact Funds for Families

CADA has received funds from the federal CARES Act to assist families economically impacted by COVID-19. This program is federally funded by a supplemental Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) CARES from the US Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families to NC Department of Health and Human Services/Division of Social Services, which allocated the funds to Community Action Agencies in North Carolina such as CADA.

CADA Implements Measures to Safeguard Families, Community and Staff

In response to the current health emergency, CADA is implementing the following steps to safeguard children/families, the community and staff: All Head Start Centers Closed Monday, March 16, 2020, for children and will remain closed until further notice; CADA is working with parents to provide electronic educational outreach and materials for the children and to coordinate meal distribution.

Ribbon Cutting at New Woodland-Olney School Apartments is Postponed

CADA Announces Funding to Renovate Woodland-Olney School Apartments Historic School to Receive a Facelift

 

 

The historic Woodland-Olney School that was converted into 30 subsidized senior apartments in 1998 by Choanoke Area Development Association of NC, Inc. (CADA) and many partners will receive a facelift and modernization to better serve the senior tenants who reside in the apartments. An allocation of federal and state historic tax credits has been received by New Woodland-Olney, LLC to fund $2.3 million in repairs including new windows, a new roof, new HVAC systems, plumbing, flooring, cabinets, appliances, improved parking, and many more upgrades. The work which will continue to preserve the historic character of the building is scheduled to be completed by the end of December 2019.

Partners who are working with CADA to make this modernization a reality are:

  • CAHEC-Community Affordable Housing Equity Corporation (syndicator federal historic tax credits)
  • NCHFA-North Carolina Housing Finance Agency (allocation of tax credits and loans)
  • Fairview Development Partners, LLC (syndicator state historic tax credits)
  • First Bank (construction financing)
  • Weaver-Kirkland Development, LLC (developer)
  • Weaver Cooke (general contractor)
  • Weaver-Kirkland Housing, LLC (managing member)
  • CADA (non-profit managing member)

The design team is Tise-Keister Architects and Rivers and Associates. EXCEL Property Management will continue to manage the day-to day operations of the apartments. HUD rental assistance will continue to be provided by Roanoke-Chowan Housing Authority. The legal team for this development is led by Debbie McKenney, Blanco Tackabery & Matamoros, PA, Winston-Salem, NC.

The Town of Woodland transferred the historic property to CADA in 1997 for the purpose of conversion into senior housing. Sallie Surface, CADA Executive Director, stated, “We are thankful for the continuing commitment of the Town to provide housing and services for senior residents. Without the town’s support and vision, the apartments would not be a reality.”

CADA Seeks Contractors for Housing Programs
Virtual/Telephonic Bidders Conference
11:00 AM Tuesday, June 14, 2022

Choanoke Area Development Association of North Carolina Incorporated., (CADA) has received funding from the US Department of Energy and The North Carolina Housing Finance Agency to weatherize home and rehabilitate the homes of eligible residents in Bertie, Edgecombe, Halifax, Hertford, Martin and Northampton Counties. CADA seeks local contractors in the following trades to implement weatherization standard measures; Evaluation, Cleaning and Tuning of HVAC Systems, HVAC’s, Electricians, Plumbers, Insulation and Incidental Repairs.

Contractors are also needed for the Urgent Repair, Essential Single Family Rehab and Disaster Recovery Essential Family Rehab Programs. All contractors must have the capacity, equipment and trained staff to install measures in accordance with program standards and the requirement of the State of North Carolina and must provide evidence of trained staff or be willing to train staff to meet required certifications and agree to a minimum of 40 annual continuing education for staff assigned to work with CADA.

Contractors must provide proof of required insurances and equipment prior to contracting and beginning work. Contractors must also submit a completed CADA’s Contractor Application if they do not have a current application on file with CADA. A minimum of three references is required.
